Chapman Middle School is made up of students who went to Lincoln Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, and Chapman Elementary. It is a Title I school with the majority of students receiving free or reduced lunch. The school administration and staff welcome our ministry and would love to see as many volunteers as we can recruit. The students at Chapman love receiving attention from volunteers, and they are always asking for more tutors.

Tutors: More tutors needed- 30 minutes, one day/week {11:30-12 or 12:50-1:20 | Tuesday-Friday}

Tuesday Daily Tutor Coordinator: Support tutors, communicate with them regarding absences, etc. {11:45-1:30 | Tuesdays}
Character Development: 10 Mentors needed for character development {11:30-12 or 12:50-1:20 | Monday – Friday}

Front Office Volunteer: Assist front office with answering phones, checking in/out students, etc. Training is provided. {Monday 12-3pm; All Day Wednesday; Tuesday 12-3; All Day Friday} Contact Darren at darren@lincolnvillageministry.com for more information.

Computer/Technical Volunteer: Making sure school computers are updated with Windows, Java, Adobe etc. Some computers need printers installed, some need WXP reinstalled. Other computers don’t work and just need someone skilled to diagnose the problem. If you have some skill level in computers this is a tremendous need for the students and teachers at Chapman- contact Mr. Emerson at gremerson@bellsouth.net.

Cheer-leading Sponsor: A volunteer is needed to help after school and occasional weekends. Contact Coach Lassie at chodges@hsv.k12.al.us. No skill needed but just a willingness to supervise and encourage the girls.

School Store Volunteer: Chapman has the desire to raise funds by opening a school store from 2:45-3:15 Monday – Friday. This has worked well in the past but needs volunteer support to re-open.

Science Lab Volunteer: Assist in the science lab. {One morning/week- 9-11:30}

We are so excited to share with you how Lincoln Village Ministry is growing! Thanks to the hard work of a few dedicated volunteers, we now have the ability to keep you informed of what’s going on through an e-mail newsletter, In The Village. The blessings are many and the needs are great so we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with specific ways you can help. We’ll also be sharing with you the ways we’re seeing God move in this area of Huntsville. What a joy to share in the blessings of His work!

July’s Volunteer Groups

Thanks so much to the many different groups that joined us this month & allowed us to accomplish so much work. These groups spent time clearing trails at the Meridian Street property, worked to get Chapman Middle looking good for the return of the teachers & students, worked & played at The Village Church & The Boy’s & Girl’s Club, and helped in the housing area.

KAA Camp (Donation Request)

Its that time of year again when we are taking 50 kids from Lincoln Village to camp,KIDS ACROSS AMERICA , located in the mountains of Branson M0!!! It’s very exciting. Many of these children have never been anywhere outside their neighborhoods. So, seeing mountains, lakes , spending time with the lord and just participating at camp will be very exciting for them. To make the trip special for them we will be providing there bedding, towels and toiletries and other things that they might need. Thank you in advance for helping us collect the following:

50 shampoo. regular size, not travel size
25 conditioners, regular size
50 bars of soap
Deodorant. 30 boys\20 girls
25 twin bed sheets , flat and fitted
Old towels\ wash clothes
50 pillows
Boys low cut socks sizes sm, med, large
Girls sock sm,med,large
50Ziplock bags, gallon size
50 Large black garbage
Any old duffel bags
Snacks for bus ride. Ex. Fruit snacks, crackers

We will be leaving for camp Sunday July 10, but hope to have all luggage to the village church on Friday July 7. We will be there at 10 am if anyone would like to come help!!! If you plan to purchase or have anything on this list just let me via email so I don’t have people duplicating. Please be praying we has a safe and wonderful trip.

It was an awesome week as teens from Southwood Presbyterian Church and The Village Church joined forces to work in Lincoln Village. Their time was spent working on a variety of projects…

Cleaning and installing the gates on the different entrances of The Heart of Hope property.
Helped with Summer Camp @ Chapman Middle School.
Built flower bed at Boy’s & Girl’s Club.
Assisted Boy’s & Girl’s Club staff working with students in arts & crafts, education and recreational activities.
Painting on house @ 1100 Bennett Street in Village.
Participated with The Village Church members for hosting Summertime @ The Village.
Worked at The Manna House.

Worked building benches at the Boy’s & Girl’s Club
Weeded the landscaping at The Village Church

Did a great job of clearing part of the “new” Meridian Street property!!!

Participated in Summertime @ The Village Church cookout and playtime

Alabama Youth Ballet (2011 Camp)

This is the 6th year that Alabama Youth Ballet has partnered with Lincoln Village Ministry in providing an 8-day dance camp to our elementary students. We are able to invite 20 kids to this and it has been a blessing every year. There are three ways to support this effort…

Attend the Dance Recital: We would love to have a packed house to encourage and applaud the hard work of the children who attended the two week camp. Please join us for the night of June 23rd for a beautiful performance.

Performance is Thursday, June 23rd from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.

Meals During Camp: One of the areas we support the Dance Connection is in providing lunch each day during camp.

Some ideas are: Pizza, lasagna, burgers, spaghetti, sandwiches, chicken fingers.
Nice sides to have: fresh fruit, veggies and ranch dip, chips (the kids LOVE fresh fruit! so it would be great with EVERY meal).
We provide water to drink so there is no need for drinks.
Lunch is delivered no later than 11:15 to be served at 11:30.
Dates needed for lunch: June 13-16 & June 21-22.
Dinner is also needed June 23.

Sponsor a child: Children attend the Dance Connection by using scholarship funds. For $22.00 you can sponsor one of these children to attend the workshop for one day ($176 will allow a child to attend the entire eight day workshop).

You may sponsor a child for any number of days ($22 x number of days) and any donation is appreciated!
All donations go directly to the Dance Connection Program.

Vanderilt University Alternative Winter Break 2011

Once again, Lincoln Village was blessed with the arrival of an enthusiastic group of students from Vanderbilt University. Eleven students took time from their holiday break to come & be a part of the work that is going on here. These students were exposed to a variety of the areas that we are involved in, and were a huge help in a lot of different areas. Much was accomplished during their stay. They spent their days working & playing with the students at Chapman Middle School, working in the housing & spending time with our staff. They painted. They laid flooring. They ran wiring. They allowed us to accomplish quite a lot in a short period of time. They also spent an evening working at The Manna House, a local food distribution ministry.

The groups from Vanderbilt are always a welcome addition to our work. They bring excitement and encouragement, and lots of fresh ideas & questions for the staff. This year’s group was wonderful.

We enjoyed their company on the work sites as well as while relaxing & watching bowl games or enjoying meals. This
was the sixth group that Vanderbilt has sent to Lincoln Village — and every time, our staff is truly blessed by their arrival.
